Soap Care + FAQ

Why is there a powdery coating on my soap?
That’s called soda ash — a harmless, natural occurrence during the soap curing process. It doesn’t affect performance and will disappear after a few washes.

How long will my soap last?
Each bar is about 4 oz and typically lasts 4–6 weeks, depending on storage and how many people use it. Many customers find it lasts even longer when kept dry between uses.

Why has the scent faded over time?
We scent our soaps with pure essential oils — no synthetic fixatives — so the aroma naturally softens over time. For the freshest scent, enjoy your soap soon after purchase. If storing to gift for someone later, keep them in our glassine bags we ship them in (or parchment paper) away from direct heat and light. This will help preserve the scent and color.

Does soap ever “go bad”?
Nope! In fact, cold process soap often improves with age, becoming harder with a richer lather. The only changes you might see are lighter colors or a softer scent. If it ever smells rancid (like old crayons) or develops large orange spots, it’s best to replace it.

Other Questions We’re Often Asked:

What’s the best way to store my soap?
Use a draining soap dish and keep it out of standing water to extend its life.

Why do bars sometimes look a little different?
We make each batch by hand with natural ingredients, so variations in color and pattern are part of their charm.

Do you use lye in your soap?
All real soap is made with lye — but don’t worry! None remains in the finished bars after the saponification process.

Why doesn’t my soap lather as much as store-bought soap?
Many commercial soaps use synthetic foaming agents. Ours lather naturally, so while bubbles may look different, the cleansing power is the same — and often gentler on skin.

Why do the bars sometimes look slightly different from batch to batch?
Because our soaps are handmade in small batches with natural colorants, each bar is unique in color and pattern — kind of like a work of art for your shower!

Why don’t you use fragrance oils or bright colors?
We stick to pure essential oils and natural clays, herbs, and botanicals for color. This means a gentler bar with no artificial dyes or synthetic fragrance.
